This is your new Peter Parker and your new Spider-Man, everyone: 19-year-old Tom Holland (Wolf Hall, The Impossible) will star in the new reboot to be released on July 28, 2017. Jon Watts, director of the Kevin Bacon-starring Sundance hit Cop Car, will direct the film.
If this verse sounds the same as the first (or should I say, second) – you’d be right. Sony has once again gone with (mostly) unknowns for both their actor and their director choice – much as they did with actor Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb back in 2012. I’m less familiar with both Watts and Holland than I was Webb and Garfield, but those who have seen Cop Car, The Impossible, and Wolf Hall speak highly of their talents.
Conventional wisdom and common sense says that we’ll first see Holland in Captain America: Civil War.
